Michaela Pilkenton

Michaela is a passionate kiteboarder, natural teacher, and advocate for women in the outdoors. As an IKO certified instructor, Michaela hopes to introduce others to her passion and to instruct everyone from beginners to those who are looking to push their own limits in the sport. Her natural ability to put nervous students at ease makes her an outstanding teacher. She focuses on you and your goals making sure you get what you want from your lesson, while maintaining a safe and fun environment. She is also an avid ski mountaineer, and when the wind isn’t blowing, you can find her on one of the many local Cascade summits.

Jeff Martin

Lead Instructor

Jeff started his kiting career learning to snowkite from Oregon Kiteboarding owner Cole Russell 8 years ago. Since then Jeff has traveled and taught kiteboarding lessons in Montana, Baja, The Outer Banks of North Carolina, and of course the Columbia Gorge. Jeff has primarily focused his kiting towards the freestyle and boot riding stylessince he comes from a snowboard background, but recently he has been moving into the strapless style of kiting utilizing his expertise from skateboarding his whole life. 


Cole Russell

Owner / Manager

Cole has been kiting since 2002 and was one of the first snowkiters. He started teaching snowkiting in 2004 and became P.A.S.A Certified in 2006. Cole used to own Underground Kite Sports in Montana until he started traveling to teach and ride in other locations. Since then he has taught in many locations both in the US and abroad and went on to get his IKO Certification to add to his bag of skills and certifications. Cole is a team rider for Duotone and been an integral part of the growth of the sport of kiteboarding. Cole can be found either managing at Big Winds in Hood River or working on keeping his kite school as the premier school in the gorge.
